The premiere episode of The Mandalorian had it all: action, humor, a little mystery, and an adorable surprise character nobody saw coming. At this point, fans are already raving about the mysterious character's appearance in Chapter One but it's Werner Herzog who has a truly awesome reaction to his tiny co-star.

In Chapter One, the titular Mandalorian is commissioned by Herzog's The Client (yes, just The Client) to procure an unusual target that is said to be 50 years old. However, it is then revealed to be a baby that happens to be the same species as Yoda.

Naturally, the internet went nuts over Baby Yoda but Herzog says that watching the little character in action actually moved him to tears.

"It's heartbreakingly beautiful," Herzog told Variety. "And I saw two technicians operating it remote. One was for the eyes and the mouth, the other was for other facial expressions, it's a phenomenal technical achievement, and beyond the technological achievement it's heartbreaking."

Wait, why is it heartbreaking? Herzog claims he doesn't know why but admits he was filled with emotion when he saw Baby Yoda.

"I don't know...but on the set it looked absolutely convincing," he said. "It made you cry when you saw it."

I think we can all agree that seeing that infant sort of made us tear up a bit, right? Needless to say, we're hoping that Baby Yoda stays safe in the succeeding episodes of The Mandalorian.

Chapter One is currently streaming on Disney+. The second episode of The Mandalorian is titled Chapter Two and will premiere on November 15.
