Star Wars: The Mandalorian Director Says Saying 'Baby Yoda' is Fine For Now

Baby Yoda may have been a big hit with Star Wars fans but the mysterious new character introduced in The Mandalorian has also sparked an interesting new debate. People are now arguing on whether he should be called "Baby Yoda" since he's clearly not the Jedi Master. However, it looks like Dave Filoni has given his blessing to the moniker.

Filoni, who directed the premiere episode of The Mandalorian, recently spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the surprise character that was revealed at the end of Chapter One. When asked if calling the character "Baby Yoda" is acceptable, the Star Wars: The Clone Wars director immediately said that it shouldn't be a problem.

"That's fine, all part of the mystery," Filoni said. He then commented that "it's very clear."

It's not like we needed Filoni's permission, but it's nice to know that he is okay with the name that the internet has chosen for the character. Officially, the character is simply referred to as The Child in the series but it sounds like Filoni is already suggesting that his true name will be revealed in The Mandalorian really soon.

But did Filoni also imply that Baby Yoda's identity is also connected to his namesake? It was previously reported that some believe that The Child is actually a clone of the Jedi Master. This was suggested by the fact that The Client's companion Dr. Pershing is adamant that the Child should not be harmed. In addition to that, Dr. Pershing appears to wear the Kaminoan symbol, which could mean that Baby Yoda is actually a clone engineered in Kamino.
