Star Wars: Rey Almost Built a Double-Bladed Lightsaber in The Rise of Skywalker

Remember when the teaser for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker shocked fans by revealing a dark version of Rey wielding a double-bladed lightsaber? That was actually just part of a vision. However, that particular weapon almost became a reality for Rey as she was building her own lightsaber.

The novelization of The Rise of Skywalker has revealed some interesting new details that were not confirmed in the film. For instance, the book made it clear that the Palpatine that appeared in the movie is actually a clone. Interestingly, the novel also confirmed that the double-bladed lightsaber that Dark Rey was using was not just a random weapon since it was something that Rey had wanted to work on while fixing Luke Skywalker's lightsaber (via Comicbook.com).

The excerpt from the book reads as follows:

"She eyed the unfinished lightsaber on her workbench. It wasn't ready yet, and the one she'd painstakingly repaired — Luke's — didn't belong to her. So her quarterstaff would have to suffice as a weapon. Which was just fine. It had served her well on Jakku for years. In fact, someday, once she had mastered this lightsaber-building business, she might design one that felt more like a quarterstaff in her hand. Familiar and hefty. Two business ends. Maybe with a hinge in the middle for portability."

That perfectly describes Dark Rey's lightsaber and it might confirm that the vision was actually part of Rey's darker desires. For now, she might not be capable of building a complex weapon but she might be able to learn how to do it in the future Star Wars films.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be available on digital on March 17 and on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD on March 31.
