Star Wars: Episode IX Theory Suggests Darth Vader Corrupted Kylo Ren, Not Snoke

It's no secret that Supreme Leader Snoke was a mentor to Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. However, a new theory suggests that Star Wars: Episode IX will reveal that the real person who corrupted Ben Solo might actually be Darth Vader himself.

The theory purports that Vader has actually been able to communicate with his grandson through an artifact that appeared briefly in The Force Awakens (via ScreenRant). Fans would remember that Kylo spoke to Vader's helmet and was more determined to go after Luke Skywalker in the film. However, things changed dramatically in The Last Jedi when he began to distance himself from the helmet. At one point, he even tried to convince Rey to join him in building a new order that is separate from the Jedi and the Sith.

It's an interesting theory indeed but there are a few things that might need to be considered. For one, we aren't sure if Ben already had the helmet while he was training under Luke. In addition to that, Leia Organa explicitly stated that it was Snoke that corrupted her son.

Although it is possible that Leia may have been mistaken about Snoke's influence on Ben, it's difficult to believe that Luke would allow the boy to carry the helmet around in the Jedi temple. Is it possible that Vader was communicating with Ben even before the helmet was found? It's plausible but we still recommend taking this with a grain of salt.

Star Wars: Episode IX will hit theaters on December 20, 2019.
