There is much to look forward to in Star Wars: Episode IX. But will the highly anticipated film actually end on a sad note? A new leak suggests that Rey and Kylo Ren's fate might not be as connected as we all thought.
It's no secret that Episode IX will be the end of the Skywalker Saga. Star Wars: The Last Jedi actor Oscar Isaac had previously confirmed this, stating that the film is "the end of the entire Skywalker saga. Nine stories. This is the culmination of the entire thing."
However, as Express has pointed out, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy also stated that there will be more movies to look forward to.
"We’re sitting down now and we’re talking about the next ten years of Star Wars and we’re looking at narratively where that might go. Future stories beyond Episode IX with these new characters, Rey, Poe, Finn, BB8… The possibilities are endless," Kennedy said.
So what does this all mean? The two statements may have confirmed that Rey will not actually be revealed as a Skywalker since the character is expected to return in more films. On the other hand, the only surviving Skywalkers are Leia Organa and Kylo Ren. If Episode IX is truly the end of the saga, this could mean that both Leia and Kylo will not survive past the film.
It's a depressing thought for fans who were hoping that Kylo Ren would be set for redemption in Episode IX. Nevertheless, we can still look forward to more Star Wars films featuring Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron.
Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled for release on December 20.
