Star Wars: Episode IX Could Rewrite Rey's Lineage, Kylo Ren's TLJ Reveal To Be Retconned

Remember when the world was disappointed when Kylo Ren revealed that Rey's parents were nobodies in Star Wars: The Last Jedi? Ben Solo may have been wrong about the whole thing and J.J. Abrams could be planning to rewrite Rey's lineage in Star Wars: Episode IX.

The reveal about Rey's parentage was certainly one of the biggest disappointments in The Last Jedi especially since people had their own theories about the character's true identity. Some even believed that Rian Johnson was merely trolling fans with a fake reveal, suggesting that Kylo Ren had lied to Rey. Interestingly, a new leak from Episode IX teases at Abrams possibly fixing the error through several intensive rewrites (via Express).

"Apparently part of those rewrites was changing the character of Rey and giving her a very important lineage - an idea which JJ Abrams originally had while filming The Force Awakens," the leak notes. "Now that he is back for Episode 9, some of the changes to the script involved changing Rey's lineage and how it will be of significance."

It's an interesting thought considering that Simon Pegg has previously hinted at Abrams having bigger plans for Rey. The star of The Force Awakens had revealed that Abrams intended for Daisy Ridley's character to have "a relevant lineage."

Although it was unclear if that meant Rey is connected to a Star Wars character that has already been introduced, it might explain why she is so strong in the Force. Nevertheless, we strongly suggest taking this with a grain of salt.

Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled for release on December 20, 2019.
