Star Wars: Did The Mandalorian Trailer Tease The Return Of Jabba The Hutt?

The first official trailer for The Mandalorian certainly has everyone excited for what appears to be a Western set in the Star Wars Universe but it may have also teased on the return of an iconic villain. Did the teaser just hint at Jabba the Hutt showing up in the Disney+ series?

It's certainly cool how the trailer didn't reveal too much about the main storyline but it did show us just enough to get us interested. For instance, it confirmed that the Deathtroopers will have a presence in The Mandalorian. In addition to that, we got to see the droid IG-11 in action, spinning around and shooting away with glorious abandon. But then again, there were two shots that seemed to tease that a huge villain is coming.

There's a brief shot of a female Twi'lek looking back and winking at an unseen character. There's a possibility that she's bidding the titular Mandalorian a cheeky goodbye, but is she also proof that Jabba is part of the storyline? After all, the crime lord was associated with Bib Fortuna and another female Twi'lek in the original Star Wars trilogy. On the other hand, this particular Twi'lek might have nothing to do with Jabba at all.

The second clue comes later in the trailer when an unfortunate alien is shown trapped in carbonite. You might remember that Jabba's favorite artwork was Han Solo encased in carbonite so could this be another piece of art that the Hutt had commissioned?

Although we're really hoping we haven't seen the last of Jabba just yet, it's important to point out that The Mandalorian takes place after the fall of the Empire. Since Jabba was already dead by then (thanks, Leia), it's unlikely that he will show up in the series. However, we shouldn't rule out the possibility that there will be a reference to Jabba or the Hutts in the show.

The Mandalorian will premiere on Disney+ on November 12.
