Star Wars Book Confirms Obi-Wan Kenobi Struggled Under Qui-Gon Jinn Training

There is little doubt that Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi had mutual respect for each other. However, the new Star Wars novel Master & Apprentice could reveal that Obi-Wan struggled during his training under the Jedi Master.

Master & Apprentice is the upcoming book by New York Times bestselling author Claudia Gray that will follow events before Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Interestingly, the novel will shed some light on how Qui-Gon's own beliefs threatened to come between him and his young apprentice Obi-Wan.

An excerpt of the description for Master & Apprentice reads as follows:

"Obi-Wan Kenobi has deep respect for his Master but struggles to understand him. Why must Qui-Gon so often disregard the laws that bind the Jedi? Why is Qui-Gon drawn to ancient Jedi prophecies instead of more practical concerns? And why wasn't Obi-Wan told that Qui-Gon is considering an invitation to join the Jedi Council—knowing it would mean the end of their partnership? The simple answer scares him: Obi-Wan has failed his Master."

In the book, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan are sent on a mission that could tear them apart due to the Jedi Master's "visions of violent disaster." Needless to say, Master & Apprentice will reveal how complicated the relationship between the two men actually was before they ended up in Tatooine in The Phantom Menace.

We already know that Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan will somehow succeed over their struggles but what is it that almost drove them apart? We will find out once the new novel is released this April.

Master & Apprentice will be released on April 16.
