Star Trek: Picard Season 1 Almost Focused on Picard and His Dog

The first season of Star Trek: Picard might be over but we are still learning interesting new things about the series. For instance, the show originally had a completely different storyline. Showrunner Michael Chabon has just confirmed that he has initially intended for the series to focus on Patrick Stewart's character and his dog.

In a recent interview with Variety, Chabon admitted he had different plans for the former Enterprise captain in the show.

"You know, personally speaking, my own tastes and inclination, I always said when we were in the earliest versions of the room for this show, if we could have just done a whole show about Picard and the dog on the vineyard in France, with no starships, no phasers, the only Romulans would be those two Romulans who work for him on the vineyard, and no politics — just, like, there's a funfair down in the village and they all go, and maybe Picard solves a very low stakes mystery in the village, like, someone has stolen the antique bell out of the bell tower, or something like that?"

Now that's an interesting idea. It may have shown a new side of Picard that nobody expected. Also, it would be nice to see more of Number One. On the other hand, this was simply an idea that Chabon had about the series and he stated that it might not be the right time for such a show.

"I would have loved to write that show. Um. I don't think the world's quite ready for a Star Trek show like that, and there's probably maybe not that big of an audience for a Star Trek show like that," he said.

Hey, we would love to see a series like that but Chabon might be right, it wouldn't be a proper Star Trek show. Nevertheless, we're happy with everything that happened in Season 1.

All episodes of Star Trek: Picard Season 1 are currently available for streaming for free on CBS All Access.
