Star Trek Icon Kate Mulgrew Reveals How She was Convinced to Return as Janeway

There is little doubt that fans are over the moon over Kate Mulgrew's return as Kathryn Janeway in a new Star Trek animated project. However, it looks like it wasn't easy to make it happen? Mulgrew has just revealed that it took a lot of convincing to reprise her role in Star Trek: Prodigy.

Mulgrew recently attended the unveiling of Janeway's statue at the character's future birthplace of Bloomington, Indiana (via Comicbook.com). During the event, the Star Trek: Voyager actress answered several questions from fans and shared how she was convinced to return in the new series.

"Well, frankly, the negotiations took quite a long time," Mulgrew admitted. She then revealed that Star Trek TV head Alex Kurtzman had to change a lot of things about the initial proposal.

"When Alex Kurtzman presented me with this idea, I wasn't entirely sure, and then over the months, the conversation evolved into what we could bring to an entirely new demographic of watchers," Mulgrew continued. She then pointed out that she eventually agreed since it meant introducing Janeway to a new generation.

"I thought the idea of bringing this to young minds was just too exciting, too evocative, and too promising," Mulgrew concluded.

We're certainly glad that Mulgrew finally agreed to do Prodigy. With that in mind, we can't wait to see Janeway in action again soon.

Star Trek: Prodigy is set to air on Nickelodeon next year.
