Spider-Man: Far From Home Director Explains Stan Lee Cameo

Anyone who has gone to watch Spider-Man: Far From Home was undoubtedly hoping for a certain person to show up at some point in the film. So what exactly happened to the Stan Lee cameo?

WARNING: The following contains Spider-Man: Far From Home spoilers. Proceed with caution.

There were several instances where Stan Lee could have shown up in Far From Home. Unfortunately, the movie concluded without a single glimpse at the late Marvel Comics icon. However, the film was dedicated to Lee and Steve Ditko, who also passed away in 2018.

So why was Lee nowhere to be found? Director Jon Watts explained that they never really planned to include a cameo in Far From Home because Lee was already very ill when they began filming.

"I mean, I think everyone sort of knew that he was sick and he had just filmed the cameo for Endgame. I think they shot that earlier, too. So I didn't want to… It felt right for the last thing to be in Endgame. So we never really talked about it, honestly," Watts told Cinemablend.

Lee passed away in November 2018 and had only filmed cameos for Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame at that time. Although it seemed fitting that Lee's final cameo would be in Endgame, it also means that Far From Home is the first Marvel film that didn't include Stan the Man.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is currently screening in theaters worldwide.
