Sonic the Hedgehog Star Jim Carrey Says First Trailer Backlash was 'A Great Thing'

It looks like Jim Carrey is a "glass-half-full" kind of guy. The star of Sonic the Hedgehog has just addressed the initial backlash to the film's first trailer and he believes that it was actually "a good thing."

The first trailer for Sonic was released in early 2019 and it immediately had fans complaining about the new Sonic's design. The backlash was so overwhelming that Paramount Pictures decided to delay the movie's November premiere in order to fix the design. Amazingly, Carrey says the negative reaction from fans really helped the film.

Carrey spoke to Fox News about his new movie and the Mask actor reportedly had good things to say about the backlash.

"I think it turned out to be a great thing. I think It turned out to be a co-op where everybody was in on the creation," Carrey said.

The comedian went on by praising the director of Sonic the Hedgehog for making it all work out in the end.

"I think everybody felt good about it ultimately because Jeff Fowler [had] no ego involved at all," Carrey revealed. "He just went, 'These people grew up with it, and it's important to them that we get it right.' And I think it was just a much better movie because of it."

It's great to know that Fowler listened to what fans had to say and it looks like his attention to detail is truly being appreciated. Sonic is currently expected to bring in around $100 million in the worldwide box office.

Sonic the Hedgehog is currently screening in theaters worldwide.
