Sonic the Hedgehog Director Thanks Fans, Teases Possible Sequel

Sonic the Hedgehog might not be a massive blockbuster but that hasn't stopped director Jeff Fowler from expressing his gratitude to all the fans who supported the film. Fowler has just shared a grateful message as well as a tease at a possible sequel.

The filmmaker took to Twitter to post a heartfelt message for fans of the Sega game character. Interestingly, his tweet also hinted at what to expect in the sequel. Check it out below.

"What... a... DAY!!! No words can describe the appreciation I'm feeling right now. You've taken this little blue hedgehog to EPIC heights. We never could have done it without the FANS... THANK YOU for your LOVE and SUPPORT. The future is VERY bright for the BLUE BLUR," Fowler wrote before adding the hashtag #SonicMovie.

It looks like the mid-credits scene was more than just a little tribute to Sonic's other friends. In the film, the credits were momentarily halted to introduce a character that fans already know and love. The scene featured the two-tailed fox named Tails showing up through a ring portal and immediately looking for Sonic. Needless to say, the sequel to the movie could focus on a team-up between the two.

The Sonic the Hedgehog movie went through a lot before its release. The film suffered from a huge backlash when the initial Sonic design shown in the first trailer didn't please the fans. Paramount Pictures then decided to fix the character's look although it meant delaying the movie's premiere. Nevertheless, it was all worth it as fans were delighted with the new Sonic that appeared in the final cut.

Sonic the Hedgehog is currently screening in theaters worldwide.
