The highly anticipated TV series based on Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time novels is definitely moving forward. Amazon has just found a truly talented director to helm the first two episodes of the upcoming show.
According to Deadline, Uta Briesewitz has been confirmed to direct the pilot as well as the second episode of The Wheel of Time. Briesewitz will work with showrunner and head writer Rafe Judkins in bringing The Westlands and its people to life.
Briesewitz is certainly an excellent choice for bringing the Aes Sedai to life. She is known for her work on TV shows with strong female leads like Orange is the New Black, Jane the Virgin, Westworld, and The 100. Briesewitz has previously worked on the recently cancelled Marvel shows Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and The Defenders.
The Wheel of Time follows Moiraine Damodred, a member of the all-female organization known as the Aes Sedai as she tries to find the Dragon Reborn. As she finds possible candidates, Moiraine tries to keep the youths away from the Dark One who could try to manipulate the Dragon Reborn.
Sony initially procured the rights to The Wheel of Time and will co-produce the series with Amazon Prime. The show has not yet been given a release date.
The series has yet to find its cast. Nevertheless, we are all looking forward to who would eventually play key characters like Moiraine, Perrin Aybara, Mat Cauthon, Egwene al'Vere, Nynaeve al'Meara, and of course, Rand al'Thor. Stay tuned for more updates on the show.
