Robert Englund Teases Nightmare on Elm Street Return But Not as Freddy Krueger

There is little doubt that Freddy Krueger is one of the most terrifying horror icons in cinematic history. But what are the chances that Robert Englund will eventually reprise his role in yet another Nightmare on Elm Street film? The veteran actor revealed that he would like to revisit the horror franchise but as a completely different character.

Englund recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly where he admitted that he would never "don the makeup again" since he is "too old for that." However, he has some interesting ideas on how he could be brought back to the franchise.

"I would love to be invited back if they decide to reboot A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 3: The Dream Warriors," Englund said. "I would love to come back and maybe play the dream analyst, the woman in the therapy sessions who doesn't believe that there can be such a thing as a collective nightmare that's common to a group of people."

Well, that's a strange choice for a cameo but Englund had his reasons for choosing Dr. Elizabeth Simms, who was originally played by Elizabeth Pointer.

"I think it would be fun for the fans, it would be fun for me to play the part originally played by a woman and do a flip on that," Englund said. "I think there's kind of a tradition in the horror genre of cameos like that, so that would be fun for me."

However, fans shouldn't get too excited about a possible Dream Warriors reboot just yet. Englund pointed out that he hasn't been given any updates about a remake.

"I have no idea whether they're going to go on and create completely new stories or whether they're going to go back and do prequels or origin stories on the Freddy Krueger myth. I don't know what they're up to. So, I'm just waiting to hear," he said.

A reboot of A Nightmare on Elm Street sounds like a great idea but the recent remake wasn't exactly a huge hit. Although we'd love to see Englund in action again, we're not exactly holding our breath on this one.
