Robert Downey Jr. Reportedly Returning As Tony Stark In Upcoming MCU Film

Remember when we all believed that Iron Man will no longer appear in more Marvel Cinematic Universe films? It might be too soon to say goodbye. A new report suggests that Robert Downey Jr. is already preparing to reprise his role as Tony Stark in an upcoming MCU movie.

The revelation comes from Deadline in a report that's actually about Tom Holland's third win at the Saturn Awards. The writeup casually mentions that Downey was awarded the Best Actor in a Film award before adding that the Avengers: Endgame star will appear in next year's Black Widow.

It's a surprisingly casual way to confirm that Downey isn't quite done with playing Iron Man. After all, his performance in Endgame was already an excellent way of capping off a decade-long stint as an Avenger. Nevertheless, fans should be pleased to find out that Downey might have a cameo or supporting role in the Scarlett Johansson film.

It is important to point out that Marvel Studios has not yet confirmed the news about Downey's return to the MCU. With that in mind, it's best to take the information with a grain of salt.

Downey first played Tony Stark in 2008's Iron Man. Since then, he has portrayed the comic book character in 10 MCU movies including an uncredited cameo in the post-credits scene of The Incredible Hulk. I guess that number will go up to 11 now that he's expected to return in Black Widow.

Black Widow is currently in production and is scheduled for release on May 1, 2020.
