Rick And Morty Creators Defend Game Of Thrones Final Season

People all have their own opinions about Game of Thrones Season 8. While some simply believe the final season was too short, others hated it so much that they signed a petition to have the entire thing reshot. However, it looks like the creators of Rick and Morty are huge fans of the eighth season of the HBO series.

Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about their thoughts of the final season of Game of Thrones. Interestingly, Harmon admitted that he was initially worried about watching Season 8 but for a strange reason.

"I was afraid to watch it for a while because I didn't want it to end," he said. "I wanted to keep this soap opera in my life. But I knew it had to end, and I was as satisfied as I possibly could be watching a staple in my life wrap up and all of the characters taking each other out."

Nevertheless, it didn't take long before Harmon was enjoying the memorable scenes in Season 8 and he credits Game of Thrones executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss for that.

"As a showrunner, I was amazed at the amount they were able to accomplish — especially given the meta-reality of having run out of books to adapt. Watching The Hound fight The Mountain on the stairs, I was like, ‘This is all great, man.' I was aware of the disappointment factor with [Daenerys Targaryen's] dark turn. I'm not going to say fans are too cynical and ungrateful, but I guess I did just say that."

Not surprisingly, Roiland agrees with Harmon.

"Structurally, I think it was great. I just selfishly wanted more episodes. I wanted to get to those plot points at a slower pace. I didn't want it to end either. I wished it was stepped out over three more seasons or three or four more episodes," Roiland said before adding, "There's not going to be another show that big."

It's great to know that Harmon and Roiland appreciated the final season of Game of Thrones. Now only time will tell if the prequel shows will earn the same respect from the Rick and Morty creators.

Rick and Morty Season 4 is set to premiere on Adult Swim in November.
