There have been speculations about the status of Rian Johnson's new Star Wars trilogy. Although some people believe that the movies have been cancelled, the Knives Out director insists that the projects are still on the table. Interestingly, a new report might confirm that it might take some time but the new trilogy is definitely happening. A new Star Wars film has been given a December 2022 release date.

The update comes from Walt Disney Studios, which recently updated its release schedule for upcoming projects (via Collider). In addition to several Marvel films, there are also at least 20 Fox projects that are being planned. However, there won't be a new Star Wars movie for the next two years. Fans will need to wait until December 2022 for another Star Wars film.

So what could the next Star Wars project be? Although the list only listed it as an untitled Star Wars movie, there is a huge possibility that this could be the first film in Johnson's new trilogy.

Of course, this isn't the only upcoming Star Wars movie that fans are already looking forward to. It's also possible that the film could be the one that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have left. Disney may have already found a replacement for the Game of Thrones showrunners so the project can be pursued without delay.

For now, details about the untitled Star Wars flick are still unknown. Hopefully, we'll get to learn more about it after the premiere of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on December 20.
