Pokemon Star Ryan Reynolds Explains Why He Agreed To Work On Detective Pikachu

Most people were probably surprised when Ryan Reynolds was announced to provide the voice of the titular monster in Detective Pikachu. However, the Deadpool star had an awesome reason on why he agreed to do a Pokemon movie.

Reynolds actually revealed why he chose to work on Detective Pikachu in the film's commentary track (via Comicbook.com). Not surprisingly, it was all about wanting to do a movie that his children could enjoy for a change.

"I was excited to do a film that my kids would love. I don't do a lot of films that are not rated-R. For me, that's a big one," Reynolds said. It's certainly a decision that all parents will agree with.

Most of Reynolds' most recent projects haven't exactly been child-friendly. Starting with 2016's Deadpool, the roles he has chosen are mostly in action films with plenty of blood, gore, and foul language. Although it seems unusual that he would go for a Pokemon movie, there is little doubt that his two daughters (with one on the way) and wife Blake Lively enjoyed watching him in Detective Pikachu.

Reynolds recently had a cameo in the Fast and Furious spin-off film Hobbs & Shaw. He is currently working on the sequel to his film with Samuel L. Jackson and Salma Hayek titled The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard. Reynolds has just finished working on the Michael Bay film Six Underground.
