Pilou Asbæk Reveals How His Overlord Character Is Different From Euron Greyjoy

You can't expect anything good from a Nazi zombie. However, Pilou Asbæk insists that his Overlord character is a lot better than his Game of Thrones villain Euron Greyjoy.

Asbæk recently discussed how Dr. Wafner is different from the crazy King of the Iron Islands (via Winter is Coming). The Ghost in the Shell star revealed that he diverted from J.J. Abrams' script and decided to make his character more interesting.

"There's a reason why a cliché is a cliché, there's some truth to it, we had to turn it upside down. We had to make him charming and fun, not like [Euron] in Game of Thrones," Asbæk said.

That doesn't mean that Euron isn't a fun character. After all, he did have some memorable scenes in Game of Thrones Season 7 including that awkward exchange with Jaime Lannister. Nevertheless, Asbæk admitted that taking on the role in the HBO series changed his life.

"I was in Chile, and I got pulled over in security. I was like, 'Holy s--t!' I felt like a criminal, I hadn't done anything, but I felt like a criminal. And then they just said, 'We love you in Game of Thrones. Can we have a photo with you?' They closed the whole border! No one came into the Chile airport for 10 minutes while I was taking photos."

That's certainly a crazy story and Asbæk said that Game of Thrones is "the biggest show there's ever been." Nevertheless, it's pretty interesting that he chose to play a Nazi zombie as a follow-up to portraying a leader who appeared to be terrified of White Walkers.

Asbæk will star in Overlord, which is scheduled for release on November 9. He will reprise his role as Euron in Game of Thrones Season 8, which is expected to air on HBO in mid-2019.
