Patrick Stewart Admits Being Ready to Turn Down Star Trek: Picard

There is little doubt that Trekkies were delighted when it was confirmed that Patrick Stewart would reprise his iconic role in Star Trek: Picard. However, it's also no secret that the Star Trek: The Next Generation actor was initially unsure about returning in the CBS All Access series. Interestingly, Stewart has just admitted that he was ready to turn down the idea even before he met with the producers.

Stewart recently spoke to NPR about Picard Season 2 and the TNG star stated that he had already decided against appearing in more Star Trek projects.

"Star Trek had taken over my life," Stewart said. "I got to a point ... when I felt that I had said everything that I wanted to say about Jean-Luc Picard and his life on the Enterprise."

Amazingly, Stewart had already made up his mind about saying no even before he met with the Picard producers about the series. In fact, he only agreed to meet with them so he could personally tell them he would turn down their offer.

"This may sound somewhat arrogant, but ... I wanted to meet with these brilliant people face to face to tell them why I was going to say no to their show," Stewart admitted.

Although Stewart had already decided against doing the show, the producers still managed to convince him to reprise his role for the series. Luckily, Picard has been a huge success and we can look forward to more of Stewart in Season 2.

Star Trek: Picard Season 2 has not yet been given an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
