Nicholas Hoult Shares First Photos From Tolkien Film

Have you always wondered about the inspiration behind The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings? We may finally find out in Tolkien, the biographical drama based on the life of J.R.R. Tolkien. Nicholas Hoult has just shared the first photos from the highly anticipated biopic.

Hoult shared the images on his official Instagram account with a truly excited note. Take a look at the post below.

"Here's the first images from Tolkien! Can't wait for you all to see this beautiful story," Hoult wrote.

The pictures show Hoult as the young Tolkien as well as Lily Collins as his beloved Edith Bratt. While speaking to USA Today, Hoult revealed that Bratt was a major influence in Tolkien's life.

"She kept him very honest and took care of him throughout all the difficult strives in his life," Hoult said. He also pointed out that Bratt "pushed him to create what he did create and gave him the foundation to be able to do that."

Although it is a biopic, Tolkien will also feature "mythical elements" as the young writer is ravaged by dark visions and dreams after contracting trench fever. "There's this darker imagination that he hasn't quite managed to get a grasp on," Hoult revealed.

The film is directed by Dome Karukoski and will also star Colm Meaney as Father Francis Morgan, Tolkien's guardian. The author's best friends Christopher Wiseman, Geoffrey Bache Smith, and Robert Quilter Gilson will be played by Tom Glynn-Carney, Anthony Boyle, and Patrick Gibson, respectively.

Tolkien is scheduled for release on May 10.
