It has been some time since Netflix announced plans for a live-action Cowboy Bebop adaptation that some people have already forgotten about it. However, it looks like the project is moving forward and has just found the perfect Spike Spiegel. Star Trek actor John Cho has just joined the highly anticipated series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cho will headline the Cowboy Bebop series as Spike Spiegel, the bounty hunter and leader of the crew on the spaceship Bebop. He will be joined by Luke Cage actor Mustafa Shakir, who will portray Spike's former cop buddy Jet Black. Daniella Pineda (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) has been cast as Faye Valentine, the amnesiac con artists who eventually joins Spike's crew.
The Bebop crew is not yet complete since the youngest member Ed, who also happens to be a master hacker, has not yet been cast. In addition to that, there is no word yet on whether the adorable corgi named Ein will be part of the crew. Nevertheless, an announcement could be made pretty soon.
In the meantime, Cowboy Bebop already has its main villain. Torchwood star Alex Hassell will play Vicious, Spike's former bounty hunting partner who is now out to get him.
The Cowboy Bebop series will have 10 episodes, the first two of which will be directed by Alex Garcia Lopez. Christopher Yost will write the pilot episode. The series has four showrunners in Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Scott Rosenberg.
The show's release date has not yet been announced. However, Cowboy Bebop is expected to premiere on Netflix by 2020.
