Natalie Portman Wields Mjolnir In Awesome Thor: Love And Thunder Photo From SDCC

There are so many awesome surprises at the Marvel Studios panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, from the introduction of Simu Lui as the new Shang-Chi to the interesting direction that Doctor Strange 2 is taking. However, one of the biggest announcements was the return of Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, who will debut as the new Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Taika Waititi, who has been confirmed to direct Thor 4, was the one to make the announcement at SDCC. Waititi revealed that a female God of Thunder will be introduced in Love and Thunder. "For us, there's only one person who could play that role and she's here," he said as Portman walked on stage. He then presented her with Mjolnir and you can see the awesome photo below.

Portman herself had a cheeky explanation to why she's agreed to return in Thor 4. "I've always had hammer envy," she said with a smile.

The fourth Thor film is expected to adapt the plotline from Jason Aaron's graphic novel where Jane becomes the God of Thunder. However, a female Thor isn't the only thing fans can look forward to in Love and Thunder.

It was also confirmed that Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie will officially take over as the new King of Asgard and she will be out looking for her queen. This means Valkyrie is also the first LGBTQ superhero to lead in a Marvel Cinematic Universe flick.

Oh, don't worry, Chris Hemsworth is also in the film although we're not sure what he will be doing since Thor's previous occupations are now taken.

Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled for release on November 5, 2021.
