Matt Smith Removed From Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Cast List

There's still an ongoing debate about who Matt Smith will portray in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. However, it looks like the former Doctor Who star will not actually appear in Episode IX. Smith's name has just been removed from the upcoming film's cast list.

People had previously freaked out when several reports confirmed that Smith will be joining the then-untitled Star Wars Episode IX. It didn't take long before fans began speculating about the Crown star's role in the movie, with some believing that Smith will play a younger Palpatine to others stating that he could be one of the members of the Knights of Ren. Unfortunately, it may have been revealed that Smith isn't even going to appear in The Rise of Skywalker after all.

Smith's name was previously listed on the special Episode IX page on Disney's international website. However, the name has since been removed from the page.

Of course, it's still possible that Disney and Lucasfilm are trying to keep Smith's involvement in The Rise of Skywalker a huge secret. On the other hand, the casting may have been a mistake from the start.

Smith himself has already denied being involved in Episode IX. The Eleventh Doctor famously stated that he is "definitely not" in the movie as far as he could tell.

Although it's disappointing to know that Smith will not be joining the Star Wars Universe, he still has some major projects ahead of him. He plays the infamous Charles Manson in the film Charlie Says and is currently working on the Marvel comic book film Morbius with Jared Leto.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is scheduled for release on December 20.
