People are hoping that Henry Cavill will switch sides. It's only been a few days since the Justice League star was reported to retire as the DC Extended Universe's Superman. However, Marvel fans are already campaigning for Cavill to be cast as Captain Britain.
Cavill has reportedly left the DCEU roster after his management's negotiations with Warner Bros. fell apart over a planned cameo in Shazam! The studio has released a statement announcing that "no decisions have been made regarding any upcoming Superman films," which conveniently gives the Man of Steel actor plenty of time to take on any other movie role he wants. But what are the chances that Cavill will end up playing Brian Braddock in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Netizens couldn't stop talking about the possibility. There are more than hundreds of tweets begging Marvel to offer Cavill the role of Captain Britain in the rumored Guy Ritchie film.
It’d be hilarious if Marvel got Henry Cavill for Captain Britain in the MCU.— Jeremy Conrad (@ManaByte) September 12, 2018
If Marvel casts Henry Cavill as Captain Britain now I'll throw a party in their honor.— Mark Cassidy (@RorMachine) September 12, 2018
Make Henry Cavill as Captain Britain @Bosslogic— aybebiy (@QuakeRogers) September 14, 2018
So Henry Cavill's future at DC becomes "muddy" and apparently has wrapped up during the SAME period of time that Marvel is allegedly looking for a Captain Britain. ?— Odie || SweetBTSTea (@sweetbtstea) September 12, 2018
The idea of Cavill being Captain Britain certainly sounds like a good fit. The actor had previously worked with Ritchie on The Man From U.N.C.L.E. In addition to that, fans keep pointing out that Cavill is British and would be perfect for the role. However, it is still unclear if a Captain Britain film is even in the works so we'll have to wait if this particular wishful fan-casting will actually happen.
Cavill has already proven that fan-casting can sometimes come true. Fans previously campaigned for the Mission: Impossible - Fallout star to play Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's The Witcher series. An announcement was later made confirming that Cavill had accepted the role.
