It looks like James Earl Jones is about to reprise another one of his iconic roles. The veteran actor, who recently lent his voice to the Lion King remake, is reuniting with Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall in the Coming To America sequel.
The news was confirmed by Deadline, revealing that Jones will be back as King Jaffe Joffer, the ruler of the fictional kingdom of Zamunda. This time, he is handing the crown over to his son Prince Akeem, but not without a final request.
Details from Coming 2 America reveal that Prince Akeem had fathered a son with a woman named Lavelle during his visit to New York. King Jaffe's dying wish asks for Akeem to find his son and bring him to Zamunda where he will be groomed as the next crown prince.
It certainly sounds like Jones' role in the sequel could be a mere cameo. Nevertheless, we are looking forward to seeing the beloved actor back on the big screen.
The new cast members who will be joining Jones are Wesley Snipes and Kiki Layne. Snipes will play General Izzi, the ruler of a neighboring kingdom, while Layne will portray Prince Akeem's daughter.
Jones is best known for providing the voice of Mufasa in The Lion King as well as Darth Vader in the Star Wars movies. He also portrayed the terrifying (and aptly-named) Thulsa Doom in Conan The Barbarian.
Coming 2 America will be directed by Craig Brewer. It is currently scheduled for release on December 18, 2020.
