The people have spoken. Jojo Rabbit has just been awarded the People's Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival 2019. Not surprisingly, Taika Waititi has the best reaction to the good news.
The report comes from Variety, which confirms that the black comedy was given the People's Choice Award at TIFF 2019. The first runner up was Noel Baumbach's Marriage Story, which is closely followed by Bong Joon-ho's own black comedy Parasite.
It's a surprising win for Jojo Rabbit, which received mixed reviews at the film festival. Nevertheless, it looks like the movie is now a strong contender for the Oscars.
But what does Waititi have to say about his film's victory? As usual, it's perfectly Taika. Check out his tweet below.
"I want to meet these people. They seem nice. And intelligent," Waititi wrote.
We're truly happy to Waititi on his win. Now, the only thing that the Thor: Love and Thunder director has to worry about is keeping his Suicide Squad character a secret.
The synopsis for Jojo Rabbit reads as follows:
"During the Second World War, lonely German boy Jojo "Rabbit" Betzler has his worldview turned upside down when he discovers that his single mother Rosie is hiding a young Jewish girl in their attic. Aided only by his imaginary friend in the form of an idiotic version of Adolf Hitler, Jojo must confront his blind Ethnic Nationalism."
Jojo Rabbit is scheduled for release on October 18.
