Joaquin Phoenix Is Odds-On Favorite To Win Best Actor Oscar For Joker Performance

There is little doubt that everyone was blown away by Joaquin Phoenix's performance in Joker. But is it enough to earn him an Oscar? A new report reveals that the Gladiator star is currently the odds-on favorite to win the Academy Award for Best Actor.

The report from Odds Shark reveals that Phoenix's odds at winning the Oscar is at -2000. It's a stunning result but not exactly surprising since he has already taken home several awards including the Golden Globe for Best Actor. We wouldn't be surprised if the Academy decides to hand him the Oscar later this February.

Although Phoenix is the obvious favorite here, he still has some competition. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker actor Adam Driver is also a favorite with odds at -900 for his performance in Marriage Story. Antonio Banderas gets +1700 for Pain and Glory while both Leonardo DiCaprio (Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood) and Game of Thrones star Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes) are at +2000.

Phoenix's performance in Joker may have been intense but that doesn't mean he was difficult to work with. Director Todd Phillips previously revealed that the actor would instantly cut loose as soon as the cameras stopped rolling.

"We would say, 'Cut,' and be off to the side and joking around or laughing about something and then we'd get back into it," Phillips said. "He's really intense as an actor, but as a guy on set, he was actually kinda light."

Find out if Phoenix will take home the Oscar at the 92nd Academy Awards, which premieres on February 10.
