James Gunn Celebrates Scooby-Doo 17th Anniversary With Matthew Lillard And Co

Remember when the live-action Scooby-Doo film was released? That was 17 years ago today and James Gunn wants everyone, including the cast, to remember that.

Gunn took to his official Twitter account to retweet a reminder that Scooby-Doo was released on June 14, 2002. The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director, who had written the film's script, made sure to tag the members of the Scooby Gang. This included Matthew Lillard, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Linda Cardellini, and Freddie Prinze Jr. Take a look at the tweet below.

Interestingly, several people were surprised to know that Gunn actually wrote the screenplay for Scooby-Doo. Nevertheless, they were grateful to the Brightburn producer for bringing their childhood back to life.

The first Scooby-Doo movie was undoubtedly Gunn's first big Hollywood project and it certainly led to more amazing movies. Gunn went on to write the screenplay for the Dawn of the Dead remake directed by Zack Snyder (that was a long time ago, wasn't it?) and would then direct Guardians of The Galaxy 10 years later.

Gunn's career isn't without controversy. He was famously fired by Disney from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 when his old offensive tweets resurfaced on social media. Gunn decided to leave Twitter after that and only returned to social media when he was reinstated to helm the Marvel Studios sequel.

Things are certainly going great for Gunn considering that he is currently preparing for the sequel to the DC Extended Universe flick Suicide Squad. He will then direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 once he completes work on Suicide Squad 2.
