JJ Abrams Didn't Change Star Wars Episode IX After The Last Jedi Backlash

There are a lot of things that fans are expecting in Star Wars: Episode IX. For one, people are wondering if J.J. Abrams had to change the film's storyline following the shocking events that took place in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. However, the director has revealed that Episode IX wasn't changed due to the previous film's backlash.

Abrams recently spoke to Entertainment Tonight about his upcoming movie. Interestingly, the Star Wars: The Force Awakens director stated that TLJ didn't affect Episode IX's story at all.

"No, I think that every movie is its own movie and, obviously, this is a trilogy," Abrams said. "We brought to that movie all the passion and hard work that we would have no matter what. I think the story speaks for itself."

People had previously believed that Luke Skywalker would play a vital role throughout the current trilogy. However, Mark Hamill only appeared briefly in The Force Awakens before Luke gets killed off in The Last Jedi. Abrams' statement might confirm that Luke was meant to see his end in the Rian Johnson film but still manage to return in Episode IX.

Abrams had previously announced that Episode IX has already wrapped principal photography by sharing a heartwarming photo of Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac on the set. Needless to say, we can't wait to see what happens to their characters later this year.

Star Wars: Episode IX has not yet been given an official title. However, there are speculations that the title will be announced before the end of February. In the meantime, the film is scheduled for release on December 20.
