J.J. Abrams Addresses Kylo Ren's Redemption In Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker

Everyone seems to be concerned about Rey joining the Dark Side in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker at the moment. But what about Kylo Ren? Is there any chance that this troubled individual will be getting a redemption arc, or is he set to embrace the darkness within him? Director J.J. Abrams has addressed the possibility.

Abrams recently spoke to MTV during the recent D23 Expo 2019 at Anaheim. When asked if Kylo Ren is beyond redemption in The Rise of Skywalker, the filmmaker played coy.

"I will say that with an actor like Adam Driver, you can never limit what that man can do. I will say, without talking about redemption or not, that he is mind-blowing in this. He's brought a whole other level to this, so I can't wait to see what happens with him," Abrams said.

It's a safe answer but one that fans are already looking forward to. After all, Driver is a gifted actor who has proven himself in several films. Kylo seems destined to end up in the Dark Side. Nevertheless, we're still crossing our fingers and hoping that this guy will prove that Leia Organa was correct when she said she could sense the Light Side in him.

The most recent teaser for The Rise of Skywalker offered a glimpse at a major showdown between Rey and Kylo. However, it also revealed Rey with a double-sided lightsaber wearing a dark hood. Will it be Rey who will end up in the Dark Side with Kylo trying to stop her? We'll find out this December.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hit theaters on December 20.
