HBO President Defends Game Of Thrones Season 8, Says It Was 'Well Thought Out'

The final season of Game of Thrones is certainly turning out to be the show's most controversial season to date. After all, no one started a petition to remake Season 5 when Jon Snow was killed by the Night's Watch. Nevertheless, Casey Bloys is defending everything about Season 8.

The HBO programming president recently spoke to Variety where he continued to praise Game of Thrones executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss for a job well done on the final season.

"I think the guys did a great job," Bloys stated. "It's always sad when a show departs, but that's part of the TV life cycle, and life moves on. But obviously, we're really proud of the show."

Bloys also pointed out that he understood why Game of Thrones Season 8 has received mixed reactions.

"I think to a certain extent it was expected that for a show this big, there's no way you're going to please everybody," he said. "It's roughly split with some people loving it and some people disliking it. That's about what you'd expect. I think the guys landed a massive plane and did a great job doing it. But you're never going to make everybody happy, nor should that be the goal."

Most of the criticism about the final season has been about its seemingly rushed storyline considering that it is much shorter than previous seasons. Nevertheless, Bloys simply waved off the criticism.

"File this under you can't please everybody," he said. "The guys have had a very, very specific plan in their head for a long time. This was not something that was kind of slapdash, where at the end of last season we said, ‘Eh, we only feel like doing six.' They were very, very deliberate. This was well thought out."

Love it or hate it, people are going to have to accept that Game of Thrones Season 8 ended the way it did and there is no way that it will ever be remade.
