Ghostbusters 2020: Dan Akroyd Confirms Original Cast Already Filmed Their Scenes

It looks like the original cast of Ghostbusters is officially coming back for the upcoming reboot/sequel directed by Jason Reitman. Dan Akroyd has just confirmed that he has already filmed his scenes alongside Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver.

Akroyd was recently a guest on The Greg Hill Show where he revealed that his cameo on Ghostbusters 2020 has already been filmed. Not surprisingly, he isn't the only original cast member who has wrapped up filming.

"We've shot our part—myself, Murray, Sigourney, and Annie Potts," Akroyd admitted. "And it was really exciting working on this new idea and new take on the story which Jason, who's a really incredible, fine filmmaker came up with."

We're loving the idea that Akroyd's Raymond Stantz, Murray's Peter Venkman, Weaver's Dana Barrett, and Annie Potts' Janine Melnitz will be back for the reboot. Interestingly, Akroyd didn't mention Ernie Hudson but it's possible that the veteran actor is still shooting scenes as Winston Zeddemore.

Akroyd also made it clear that he is impressed with Reitman, who just happens to be the son of the original film's director Ivan Reitman.

"Jason Reitman wrote a beautiful, heartfelt script that takes the real DNA from the first two movies and transfers that directly to the third, the next generation," Akroyd said. "It hands the legacy off to a new generation of stars, and players, and actors, and characters."

We're loving how Akroyd is promoting the reboot and can't wait to see what will happen for the original cast.

Ghostbusters 2020 also stars Carrie Coon, McKenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, and Paul Rudd. It is scheduled for release on July 10, 2020.
