Game of Thrones Season 8 Removed Emotional Theon Greyjoy Scene

There is little doubt that Theon Greyjoy had one of the best redemption arcs in Game of Thrones Season 8. However, new details may have confirmed that an important part of Theon's story has been left out from the final season.

In Season 8, Theon immediately set off to rescue his sister from his uncle Euron Greyjoy. Although Yara Greyjoy was relieved to be saved, she also headbutted him before they shared a look. Interestingly, the original script for the episode, which was shared by the Writers Guild Foundation Shavelson-Webb Library in Los Angeles (via Insider), has revealed that the two were supposed to have a critical exchange that would have completed Theon's redemption.

In the script, Theon was supposed to express his regret about abandoning Yara that allowed Euron to take her hostage in the first place. The writers made a note that it was "hard for Theon to talk about the night he betrayed his sister and jumped overboard, but he finally brings himself to say the words." He also calls himself a "coward" but Yara responds that he was still brave enough to save her.

It would have been an emotional scene that could give more weight to Theon's ultimate sacrifice in the third episode. After all, it would have given some explanation on why Theon decided to leave his sister at the mercy of their uncle. In addition to that, this could mean that Yara would have more important lines in the final season. Unfortunately, that's an exchange we'll never get to see.

Do you think Theon's conversation with Yara should have been kept in the final season? Let us know in the comments below.
