Game Of Thrones Season 8 Releases First 'Beautiful Death' From Winterfell

The world of Game of Thrones has several traditions like the pivotal Episode 9 in the past seasons or the distinct changes in the map of Westeros featured in the opening credits. One notable tradition is the Beautiful Death posters that are usually released once a certain character is killed in the HBO series. Not surprisingly, Game of Thrones Season 8 has just unveiled the first Beautiful Death poster for the final season and it's a truly tragic one.

The premiere episode of Season 8 didn't have a lot of casualties (or at least casualties that fans truly cared about). The one painful death in Winterfell was discovered by Beric Dondarrion, Dolorous Edd, and Tormund Giantsbane in Last Hearth, the stronghold of House Umber. Unfortunately, the first victim of the final season is the boy Ned Umber, who was turned into a wight and immediately burned by Beric. He is featured, along with the Night King, in the poster created by Robert Ball.

The Beautiful Death poster is titled It's A Message From The Night King and it also features Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen. Ball explained his inspiration for the poster.

"I wanted to show the wider impact of the death and the message from the Night King, by picking up a theme from the episode that youth and happiness, and Jon and Daenerys' brief moments together, will ‘never last.' I used an image of Ned Umber from the episode where he's pardoned by Jon Snow — arguably setting him on the path that led to his doom," Ball said.

It's certainly a beautiful death, but a depressing one as well. Unfortunately, it also means that there are more deaths to come in the next episodes.

Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 2 will premiere on HBO on April 21.
