Game Of Thrones Season 8 Might Be Setting Up Daenerys Targaryen As Final Villain

People believe they already know what will happen in Game of Thrones Season 8: the White Walkers will kill several major characters in the major battle at Winterfell, Cersei Lannister will lose the Iron Throne, then Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen will rule the Seven Kingdoms together. It certainly seems like the right way to go but it also looks like the final season is setting the Mother of Dragons up as the major villain in the series.

It's no secret that Daenerys has had a difficult life. She was raised by her power-hungry brother who immediately wed her off to Khal Drogo so he could get a Dothraki army. However, Dany managed to rise above it all, slowly acquiring her own army and growing her dragons until she is finally good and ready to take the Iron Throne. But will her journey end with Dany becoming the bad guy in the final season?

The Game of Thrones Season 8 premiere may have hinted at how Daenerys could eventually become the villain in the series. In Winterfell, she finally met Samwell Tarly, who she thanked for saving Jorah Mormont's life but also revealed that she had executed Sam's father and brother. Granted, they weren't nice people but the act once again confirmed that Dany has no problem killing people who were against her.

Another scene that may have teased Daenerys' evil ways is when Sam finally tells Jon Snow the truth about his parentage. At first, Jon doesn't want to believe Sam but his friend persists, dropping the line that could reveal the truth about Dany's ways: "You gave up your crown to save your people. Would she do the same?"

The obvious answer to this is "no" considering how much Dany wants that Iron Throne. Although it's unlikely that their relationship will be torn apart right away (they still have to fight the White Walkers, remember?), Dany might insist on having her way and fight her own nephew to rule Westeros.

This isn't the first time that fans have theorized that Daenerys will prove to be an unworthy ruler. There have been several theories suggesting that the Mother of Dragons could turn out to be a Mad Queen who will burn down anyone who opposes her (she does say 'Dracarys' a lot, doesn't she?). But will it happen? It's certainly an unexpected turn of events but we still recommend taking it with a grain of salt.

Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 2 will air on HBO on April 21.
