The Huge Regret Maisie Williams Had for 'Game of Thrones'

There are a lot of things that people complain about when it comes to Game of Thrones Season 8. However, the one thing that fans seem to agree about is the unsatisfying death of Cersei Lannister. Interestingly, even Maisie Williams and Lena Headey weren't happy with the way Cersei died in the final season.

Williams recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly where she admitted that she was hoping Arya Stark would continue on her way to the Red Keep and finally finish her list.

"I wanted Arya to kill Cersei," Williams said. "Even up to the point when Cersei's with Jaime I thought, ‘He's going to whip off his face [and reveal its Arya]' and they're both going to die. I thought that's what Arya's drive has been."

Not surprisingly, Headey agreed that Cersei should have gotten a bloodier death. "I lived that fantasy until I read the script," she confessed.

Although both actors didn't get to see Arya check another name off her list (we're not holding out on Ilyn Payne at this point), they accepted that Cersei deserved the death she got in the end. Williams pointed out that it was fitting for Arya to realize that her family was more important than her list. Headey also stated that Cersei dying in Jaime Lannister's arms was "poetic" for both characters.

We don't always get what we hope for in the films and TV shows that we watch, especially not in a series called Game of Thrones. Nevertheless, if the actors can accept the fate of the characters, it's probably best for viewers to accept it as well.
