Game Of Thrones: Elizabeth Olsen Shares Disastrous Audition For Daenerys Role

It's hard to imagine anybody other than Emilia Clarke playing Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones. However, we almost had a completely different Mother of Dragons if Elizabeth Olsen had nailed her audition for the HBO series. Interestingly, the Avengers: Endgame star admitted that the audition was somehow disastrous because the producers weren't sure about what they wanted back then.

Olsen recently spoke to Vulture about getting into acting and actually trying out for a coveted role in a fantasy show.

"When I first started working, I just auditioned for everything, because I like auditioning. And I auditioned for Khaleesi. I forgot that," Olsen admitted. "It was the most awkward audition I'd ever had."

So how exactly did Olsen try out for the role of the young Daenerys? The Captain America: Civil War actress revealed that she had to recite a lengthy speech in two different accents.

"[From] after she just burned. And she's making this speech to thousands of people about how she's their queen. They didn't know if they wanted a British accent or not. So, you did it in both. It was terrible. Anytime someone says, ‘Bad audition story.' That's one I remember," Olsen shared.

This is certainly interesting considering that Daenerys doesn't have a speech after she emerges from Khal Drogo's funeral pyre unscathed with her newly hatched dragons. Perhaps Olsen was referring to Dany's speech before she stepped into the flames. Either way, it's understandable why Olsen struggled with the audition.

Although she didn't end up being cast in Game of Thrones, Olsen's career has certainly taken off since that disastrous audition. Fans now know her as Scarlet Witch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a role that she is expected to reprise in the WandaVision series that will air on Disney+.

In the meantime, you can catch Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen in the final episode of Game of Thrones, which airs on HBO on May 19.
