Elisabeth Moss on How The Invisible Man Realistically Deals with Domestic Abuse

It will still be a few more weeks before the premiere of The Invisible Man but the new sci-fi thriller already has people talking with its undeniable theme involving domestic violence. Not surprisingly, Elisabeth Moss has confirmed that although the movie is fictional, it has a realistic depiction of how women deal with abuse.

Moss recently spoke to Empire Magazine about her upcoming thriller and she was quick to point out that The Invisible Man is almost a metaphor to what happens to women on a regular basis.

"You literally have a man who is invisible, you can't see him, she's saying he's there, that he's attacking her, abusing her, manipulating her, and everyone around her is saying, ‘Relax. It's fine.' And she keeps saying, ‘No, he is – he's alive, he's doing this,' and no-one believes her," Moss said. "The analogy is incredibly clear."

She has a point right there since this is a problem that thousands of women deal with all the time. In addition to that, Moss stated that her previous works have helped her prepare for her role.

"I've had quite a bit of experience playing characters who are dealing with various types of abuse. Whether it's emotional, physical, sexual, it's something that I've dived into quite a bit. So I was able to bring that knowledge to the role," she said.

The Invisible Man is a modern adaptation of the book by H.G. Wells and also stars The Haunting of Hill House actor Oliver Jackson-Cohen. The film will premiere on February 28.
