It looks like the wait for the Dune reboot just got a little longer. The highly anticipated remake helmed by Denis Villeneuve has been delayed yet again.
According to Collider, the Dune release date has been moved back for a full month. Although it was initially scheduled to premiere on November 20, 2020, the new release date is now set on December 18, 2020.
The move is certainly interesting since it means that Dune will be going up against several possible blockbusters during Christmas. The other films that will be opening on the same weekend include the Uncharted movie starring Spider-Man: Far From Home actor Tom Holland and Steven Spielberg's take on the musical West Side Story. In addition to that, the planned Coming To America sequel will premiere on the same date although it is possible that the Eddie Murphy film will be moved to a later date.
Warner Bros. might be making a risky move with Dune but the studio could be planning to dominate the box office on Christmas by being the only sci-fi offering during that time. After all, this is the one Christmas where they don't have to compete with a Star Wars movie so we'll see if it works out for Warner Bros.
The film will star Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, a role that was previously played by Kyle McLachlan. He will be joined by Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Stephen Henderson, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.
