Doctor Strange 2 Star Benedict Cumberbatch Sets Realistic Expectations For Sherlock Season 5

It looks like the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be taking over most of Benedict Cumberbatch's life for the next few years. The Doctor Strange 2 actor has just offered an update on Sherlock Season 5, and it might be too depressing for the fandom.

Cumberbatch recently spoke to the NY Daily News about the future of a possible fifth season for his beloved BBC series. Unfortunately, the Avengers: Infinity War star isn't expecting to don the deerstalker again next year.

"No time soon. Don't hold your breath, but you never say never," Cumberbatch said. "But no time soon. Never say never — that's what we always say on that show — but we're all busy getting a kick out of doing other things, and that's not to say it's reached its end. It just means not right now."

Although it sounds like Cumberbatch is open to returning as the eccentric detective, he's rather realistic about his own schedule. After all, he's expected to return as Stephen Strange in Avengers 4 although the character was killed off in Infinity War. In addition to that, the Sorcerer Supreme is set to star in Doctor Strange 2 in the next two years.

Cumberbatch isn't the only one who is firmly tied up with the MCU. His Sherlock co-star Martin Freeman might also be coming back as Everett K. Ross in yet another Marvel flick. Freeman was last seen in Black Panther where he helped the Wakandans defend their home from Erik Killmonger.

Find out if Doctor Strange will be back in Avengers 4, which premieres on May 3, 2019.
