Disney Will Reanimate Princess Tiana After Wreck-It-Ralph 2 Backlash

Disney is taking action after the major backlash over Princess Tiana's appearance in the Ralph Breaks the Internet photos. Walt Disney Animation Studios is reportedly reanimating the character in several scenes in Wreck-It-Ralph 2.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the studio has decided to fix Tiana's looks after several fans complained that the Princess and the Frog character was given lighter skin and a narrow nose. The animators reportedly consulted with Tiana voice actress Anika Noni Rose as well as representatives from Color of Change about the revision.

The report confirms that the Color of Change representatives suggested that "darker hair and a wider nose and mouth" would be more fitting for Tiana. The advice has been taken into consideration so hopefully, we can expect the princess to look for like her original appearance in The Princess and the Frog.

Tiana is a truly important character because she represents black women in a mostly Caucasian line-up of Disney Princesses. Although the process of reanimating the princess in Ralph Breaks the Internet might be painstaking, it is certainly for the best. Her improved look is expected to please fans when Wreck-It-Ralph 2 premieres later this year.

The Disney Princesses scene is certainly one of the most celebrated moments in the animated sequel. However, some have questioned why other princesses were not included in the scene. For instance, fans wondered why Princess Leia from Star Wars did not make an appearance although she is now technically a Disney princess. However, Ralph Breaks the Internet co-director Rich Moore explained that the movie is "going to use the canonized group of princesses, known as the Disney Princesses."

Wreck-It-Ralph 2 brings back John C. Reilly as the titular character as well as Sarah Silverman as Vanellope von Schweetz. They will be joined by Gal Gadot, who will provide the voice of the racecar driver Shank.

Ralph Breaks the Internet will hit theaters on November 21.
