The planned remake of Pinocchio has been delayed for some time but it looks like the live-action film will be getting a new director soon. It has been revealed that Robert Zemeckis is currently in negotiations to helm the new adaptation of the 1940 Disney animated classic.

The report comes from Variety, which confirms that Zemeckis is in early talks to work on the live-action Pinocchio. It was revealed that the Back to the Future director already had his eye on the project but had wanted to wrap production on his other film, which is an adaptation of Roald Dahl's The Witches. Luckily, the Anne Hathaway movie is currently in post-production, giving Zemeckis the chance to plan his next project.

If Zemeckis agrees to work on Pinocchio, he would be the second director confirmed for the film. Paddington filmmaker Paul King was initially set to helm the movie based on the script penned by Chris Weitz. Unfortunately, King decided to leave the project in January. Here's hoping that Zemeckis will sign on to the film so it could finally move forward.

Pinocchio was first made into an animated feature back in 1940 and is based on the Carlo Collodi book The Adventures of Pinocchio. It follows a woodcarver who creates a puppet that is magically brought to life by a blue fairy. It was the first animated film to win an Academy Award for Best Song for When You Wish Upon A Star.
