Disney Nominates Robert Downey Jr for Oscars for Avengers: Endgame Performance

There is little doubt that Robert Downey Jr.'s performance in Avengers: Endgame was so moving that fans were moved to tears. But is it worthy of an Oscar? Most people believe so and it looks like Disney actually agrees. A new list of possible Endgame candidates presented by the House of Mouse happens to include the Sherlock Holmes 3 actor.

A quick look at Disney's official site features the full list of the studios' "For Your Consideration" for Endgame confirms that Downey is one of the nominees. However, it isn't for the Best Actor category. Disney is campaigning for Downey to be nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Award at the upcoming Academy Awards.

It's important to note that Downey isn't the only one that Disney is supporting. The list also nominates Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Josh Brolin, Paul Rudd, and Don Cheadle. Endgame stars Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, and Brie Larson are being pushed for the Best Supporting Actress Award as well.

We're certainly loving the idea that Downey and his Endgame co-stars are all being supported by Disney. Although it's a bit disappointing that Downey isn't up for the Best Actor Award, it's great to know that the House of Mouse recognizes his brilliant performance. Nevertheless, Endgame is an ensemble film so I guess it makes sense that everyone gets equal billing.

Downey's first post-Endgame project is the film Dolittle, which is scheduled for release on January 17, 2020. The 92nd Academy Awards will be held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on February 9, 2020.
