Disney Delays Mulan Premiere To August

It looks like fans will have to wait a little longer for the live-action adaptation of Mulan. Disney has just decided to delay the premiere of the highly anticipated reboot of the animated classic due to increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases across the country.

The delay was announced by Disney executives Alan Horn and Alan Bergman in a statement published by The Hollywood Reporter. Instead of being released on July 24, the film will now be pushed back to late August.

"While the pandemic has changed our release plans for Mulan and we will continue to be flexible as conditions require, it has not changed our belief in the power of this film and its message of hope and perseverance," the statement reads. "Director Niki Caro and our cast and crew have created a beautiful, epic, and moving film that is everything the cinematic experience should be, and that's where we believe it belongs—on the world stage and the big screen for audiences around the globe to enjoy together."

This is the second time that Mulan had to be pushed back. Although it was originally set to premiere on March 27, Disney chose to move the release to July 24 due to the coronavirus outbreak earlier this year. Although the House of Mouse had been hopeful that things would have cleared up by now, there are still new cases being reported in the United States.

Mulan isn't the only major film that has once again been moved back due to COVID-19. Christopher Nolan's Tenet was previously confirmed to get a push back from its July 31 premiere and will now be released on August 12.

Mulan is now scheduled for release on August 21.
