Derek Mears Wants A Swamp Thing/Constantine/Justice League Dark Crossover

The cancellation of Swamp Thing might be a depressing idea but that doesn't seem to bother Derek Mears. The horror legend who portrays the swamp monster in the DC Universe series still has some ideas on how the show could move forward and it involves a major crossover with Justice League Dark or John Constantine.

Mears recently spoke to Screen Rant about his work on Swamp Thing and the Friday the 13th star stated that he has never been told about any possible crossovers. Nevertheless, that doesn't mean he doesn't have ideas of his own.

"No, just my`own speculation when we were on set being that I'm a fan going 'Oh cool, what could we possibly do?' and you start to fantasize about where it could possibly go, but then when I read online the rumors they were talking about a 3 season arc and a Justice League Dark show or movie I was like 'Oh, are you kidding me? That would have been the best!'" Mears said. "Just to explore more the magic realm of the DC universe and bring obscure characters into light. That would of just... ugh! And then the possible chance to have, you know... nevermind, I'll backpedal on that before I start repeating myself, I'm just a giant nerd."

Interestingly, Mears was very enthusiastic about the possibility of continuing to work with the cast and crew of Swamp Thing on a crossover with another cancelled DC series.

"Look, if it's the same showrunners and people involved in the show we did, I will go to hell with this character because I had so much fun," he said. "As a fan, seeing, if they ever had Swamp Thing and Constantine together, that would be just dynamite."

But what are the chances that Constantine will actually show up in Swamp Thing? Mears declined to confirm anything but did point out that there could be Easter eggs to look forward to in the upcoming episodes.

"There are little fun little Easter eggs and little things where you're, as a fan in our series, things that are very subtle at certain points as a fan I would go to Mark [Verheiden], our showrunner and go 'Wait a second, is this a reference to...' and he's like [mysteriously] 'Hmmm,'" he said. "So in that realm of magic in the DC universe there are some fun little fan service things happening in our show, which I can't talk about yet, but you'll see coming up."

That certainly has us convinced to keep our eyes peeled. The next episode of Swamp Thing could be something to look forward to.

Swamp Thing airs on DC Universe every Friday.
