Deadpool And Fantastic Four Almost Appeared In Cancelled X-Men Movie

The possibilities are certainly endless for Marvel fans now that 20th Century Fox has been acquired by Disney. However, it looks like Fox may have planned for a major crossover film for the studio's Marvel characters. That's right, we almost had an X-Men movie featuring Deadpool and The Fantastic Four.

The revelation comes from X-Men: First Class screenwriter Zack Stentz, who was recently a guest on Kevin Smith's Fatman Beyond podcast. Interestingly, Stentz admitted that he and former writing partner Ashely Edward Miller actually worked on a script that brought the X-Men together with Fox's other Marvel characters. Additionally, the studio already had a director attached to the project.

"My ex-partner and I, when we were working at Fox and we were working on X-Men: First Class, we did a secret movie for them that, I can't tell you what the plot was, but I can tell you that it used all of the characters, all of the Marvel characters that Fox had at the time in 2011," Stentz said. "It used the X-Men. It used the Fantastic Four. It used Daredevil. It used Deadpool. Daredevil was still at Fox at the time. We almost had Paul Greengrass directing it which would've been so cool but he had another project to do instead. It didn't end up going but it was a script I was really proud of and it would've been really good."

It's pretty disappointing that this never happened back in the past. Although we would have loved the idea of a major X-Men film that actually included Daredevil, it looks it could happen now that all the characters are under one studio. For now, we can look forward to Fox's last X-Men film Dark Phoenix next week.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix hits theaters on June 7.
