Are you waiting for HBO to announce Watchmen Season 2? There's a possibility that the network is eager to get another season of the wildly successful series inspired by the graphic novel. However, it looks like fans shouldn't expect Damon Lindelof to continue working on the show's second season.
Lindelof recently spoke to Collider where he confirmed that he is hoping that Watchmen gets a second season. Although this is good news, the showrunner also stated that he has no plans of being involved in Season 2.
“Suffice it to say that I just feel like what’s best for Watchmen, this thing that I love, is for someone else to take their shot at it. I think that that’s just gonna be much more interesting than anything that I would do moving forwards,” Lindelof said. He immediately added that it's not about passing on what appears to be a great opportunity.
“It’s not that I take the opportunity for granted. I’ve learned that not working with actors again is stupid, so I would love to work with Carrie Coon again and I would love to work with Regina King again and Jean Smart and Tim Blake Nelson and Justin Theroux and Kevin Carroll and Jovan Adepo, who I’ve worked with twice now. These actors in the world of Watchmen. But at the same time, unless I have an idea that is as important to me as Tulsa ’21 was, then I shouldn’t do it,” Lindelof said. He continued by admitting that inspiration hasn't struck since the first season ended.
“I haven’t had that idea, and I want to create the space versus people waiting for me to change my mind. I want to create the space for people to come forward and say, ‘I have an idea,’” Lindelof concluded.
It's great to know that Lindelof wants other people to take a crack at the series. On the other hand, we're also hoping he would get a new idea and decide to return for Season 2.
For now, HBO has not yet renewed Watchmen for a second season. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
