Crisis on Infinite Earths: Brandon Routh Explains Why He Agreed to Play Superman Again

There is little doubt that people were thrilled when it was announced that Brandon Routh would once again play Superman in Crisis on Infinite Earths. However, the Legends of Tomorrow star was initially unsure about donning the red cape all over again.

Routh recently spoke to Den of Geek about the Arrowverse crossover event. He shared some details about how executive producer Marc Guggenheim approached him about the possibility of playing Kingdom Come Superman.

"Well, he said that they were doing the Crisis storyline and that they were going to have the Legends and Ray Palmer be a big part of it," Routh said. "But also since they were involving multiple Earths and universes, that there was a potential if I was interested for me to show up in a different suit as well. That's the way he kind of pitched it."

Amazingly, Routh confessed that he didn't immediately accept the role.

"I said, 'Look, I'm really honored that you would ask and it sounds like a really great thing, but I just want to take a moment to sit with it to make sure that it's the right decision for me to revisit the character,'" he said before adding, "I obviously said yes later."

We're certainly glad that Routh agreed to reprise the role he initially played in Superman Returns. Hopefully, we'll see more of Kingdom Come Superman in the next episode of Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Four is the Arrow Season 8 episode and will air on The CW on January 14, 2020.
